Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve, at the junction of the Aravalis and the Vindhyas, is a unique example of natural and historical richness, standing out conspicuously in the vast, arid and denuded tract of eastern Rajasthan. It is barely about 14 kilometers from Sawai Madhopur. Get in tune with nature for a luxury holiday in the heart of the jungle. Ranthambhore arguably the best place in the world to view a tiger in the wild. The Ranthambore National Park has had more Tiger sightings than any other National Park in the country. It has become famous as "The land of the Tiger", as most of the documented footage of this majestic beast has been recorded here.
It extends over a highly rolling topography differing from gentle to steep slopes; from flat topped hills of the Vindhyas to the conical hillocks and sharp ridges of the Aravalis, from wide and flat valleys to narrow rocky gorges. An important geological feature the Great Boundary Fault where the Vindhya plateaus meet the Aravalis hills, meanders through the Reserve. The National Park is surrounded by the Chambal Rivers in the south and Banas Rivers in the north.
In the evening, you will come back to the hotel for an overnight stay. ![]()
Day 10: Ranthambhore
In the morning, you will again take up a Jungle Safari. You will carry your Breakfast and Lunch with you. It will be a full day game viewing excursion inside the Jungle.
Ranthambore forest is of tropical dry deciduous type, further classified as Dhok climax forest because of the predominance of Dhok (Anogeissus pendulla) that are found nearly everywhere. Dhok is an extremely hardy tree, capable of withstanding prolonged droughts. The leaves of this tree are good fodder and they are browsed by herbivores, and form a significant part of their diet. Even the dry, fallen leaves, eaten by them, are rich source of nutrition.
Tiger, at the apex of the food chain, lord over the kingdom in a subtle way. Solitary by nature, it operates in stealth. It can be said that the tiger sightings, frequent as they are, are always a matter of chance. However, even evidences of tiger's activities are very exciting.
Ranthambore is a home to other kinds of cats as well. These are Leopard (Panther pardus), Leopard Cat (Felis bengalensis), Fishing Cat (Felis viverrina), Caracal (Felis caracal), and the Jungle Cat (Felis chaus). Besides them, the other large predators in Ranthambore are Sloth Bear, Wolf, Striped Hyena, Wild dog (or Dhole), Jackal, Palm Civet, Indian Fox, Small Indian Civet, Small Indian Mongoose, Common Indian Mongoose, Ratel (or Honey Badger), Marsh Crocodile and the Indian Python. Two kinds of species of Antlers are found here. These are Spotted Deer (or Chital) and the Sambhar Deer. The two types of Antelopes that can as well be spotted here include the Indian Gazelle (or Chinkara) and the Bluebull (or Neelgai). Black Buck (another kind of antelope), which is rarely found in the National Park is common in Devpura area, in the outskirts of the park.
In the evening, you will return to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 11/12: Ranthambhore Jabalpur Kanha
In the Morning, you will catch the train to Jabalpur. From Jabalpur, you can drive to Kanha. After reaching Kanha, you will check in the hotel with the assistance of our representative. Afternoon is free for relaxation.
Kanha National Park: Well known for its deer and tiger population, Kanha National Park is one of the most popular national parks in Madhya Pradesh. The fauna at the park was believed to have been the inspiration behind Rudyard Kipling's famed classic Jungle Book. The park covers an area of 1945 sq km including a core area of 940 sq km. Kanha National Park was given a status of sanctuary in 1952 and in 1955 the park was transformed into national park. In 1974, the park was announced a tiger reserve with the launch of the Project Tiger.
The park is touted to be one of the most famous wildlife sanctuaries. Here you can see a tiger. Tigers are what attract most wildlife enthusiasts to Kanha National Park. Apart from tigers, you can also see barasingha deer, spotted deer, leopard, sambar, (chital), monkeys, bluebull (nilgai), wild dogs, the Indian bison (gaur) and wild boar at Kanha National Park. The park is an excellent example of conservation. As at one point of time, the number of barasingha-the 12-horned deer-was reduced to 70 but with conservation activities paid off and the number of barasingha increased to 500.
Kanha National park serves as a shelter to more than 200 species of birds. Owing to this, the park is frequented by birdwatchers and ornithologists. Some of the bird species that you can spot here comprise flycatchers, egrets, jungle fowl, kingfishers, herons, partridges, teals, warblers, quail and woodpeckers.
